Dr. Rodrigo Valencia Cotera currently works as a scientist in the DACStorE project. His research focuses on the acceptance of direct air capture technology. He joined GERICS in 2018 as a PhD student in cooperation with the University of Hamburg. During his PhD thesis, he analyzed the efficiency of water management measures for climate change adaptation in agriculture. For this, he implemented a multi-dimensional approach by blending stakeholder engagement, quantitative modeling and climate data.

Before his PhD, Rodrigo received his B.Sc. in mechanical engineer with a minor in electrical engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM). After his graduation, he worked for two years as energy consultant for international companies. During his M.Sc. at the University of Hohenheim and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), he specialized in environmental sciences with a focus on water management. In his master's thesis, he dealt with the phytoremediation of heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems.
