Louisa Bell began her academic career at the University of Hamburg, specialising early on in the study and modelling of our climate system. After a Bachelor's degree in Physical Oceanography and a Master's degree in Integrated Climate System Sciences, she deepened her knowledge in climate sciences and obtained a PhD in Meteorology. As part of the HICSS project „Winter“, a collaboration between GERICS and the University of Hamburg, she worked intensively on climatic changes in Hamburg during winter, based on regional climate model results.

Since August 2024, Louisa Bell has been working as a scientist in the NUKLEUS project („Usable Climate Information for Germany“), which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the RegIKlim research project. The aim of the NUKLEUS project is to provide reliable climate information on the convection-permitting scale for Germany.

In the current phase of the project, a prototype web platform is being developed that provides climate-relevant data products, interactive tools and practical recommendations for climate adaptation. Louisa Bell is working on the interface between the web platform and the climate information from high-resolution regional climate models and is developing specific plug-ins to optimise the use and integration of this information on the platform.
