Maria Wolff is the director's personal assistant. As a science manager, she supports the director in all daily and scientific matters. These include: strategy development, content consolidation, preparation and coordination of preparatory work in close cooperation with the specialist departments, conception and creation of presentations, preparation and follow-up of meetings and workshops, scientific third-party funded projects and collaborations.
Maria graduated in Landscape Ecology and has a professional background in both environmental economics and soil sciences. After completing her studies, Maria spent two years in China and worked alongside her language studies at Beijing Normal University in the UNESCO Regional Office in Beijing. Here she supported the coordination of the Germany-funded project ERSEC - Ecological Research for Sustaining the Environment in China.
Maria then worked for several years at the Institute for Soil Science at the TU Dresden, where she dealt with soil chemistry and ecology issues related to various land use systems in China as part of various third-party funded projects.
Maria found her way into science coordination and research management as the coordinator of the Geoverbund ABC/J, a research network of all geoscientific disciplines from the universities of Aachen, Bonn, Cologne and the Jülich Research Center. After completing a master’s degree in Science Marketing and Communication at the TU Berlin, Maria switched to science management at Jülich Research Center and later to the research management at the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht, today Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon.
Since 2020 she has been supporting the GERICS team through her many years of experience in science management and marketing.
