Peter Greve joined GERICS in August 2022 to lead the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group "Uncertain Water Resources under Global Change” (UwaRes) focusing on the analysis and simulation of water resources in (regional) climate modelling systems. His main research interest lies at the interface of climate and hydrological science. Peter has worked with various climate and hydrological models aiming to understand changes and uncertainties in past, present, and future water availability, aridity, and water scarcity. His assessment of water scarcity accounts for sectoral water use from households, industries and agriculture and aims to provide more accessible and actionable information to end-users. He has contributed to different chapters (concerning drought and hydrological impacts) in Working Group I and II of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report and the IPCC special report on "Global Warming of 1.5°C".

From 2016 to 2022, Peter worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and contributed to the Water program’s activities by providing a climate-focused perspective on the use and the development of a socio-hydrological model. He received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2015. In his PhD thesis, he assessed historical and projected trends in water availability, aridity, and their associated uncertainties. Peter holds a diploma in Meteorology from Christian Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany.
